The Powder Ridge Rock Festival, planned for July 31, August 1, and August 2, 1970, at the Powder Ridge Ski Area in Middlefield, Connecticut, was halted by a court order, preventing the scheduled musical performances. Despite the cancellation, a gathering of 30,000 people converged on the site, only to discover a lack of food, entertainment, sufficient sanitation facilities, and the presence of around seventy individuals selling drugs.
