Leonard Freed (American, 1929-2006) Powder Ridge Rock Festival, Connecticut, 1970 Gelatin silver print 7-3/4 x 11-5/8 inches (19.7 x 29.5 cm) (image/sheet) Signed and titled in pencil, and with photographer's Magnum and Vintage Print stamps, verso. Photographer's Magnum and Vintage Print stamps, mount verso. The Powder Ridge Rock Festival, planned for July 31, August 1, and August 2, 1970, at the Powder Ridge Ski Area in Middlefield, Connecticut, was halted by a court order, preventing the scheduled musical performances. Despite the cancellation, a gathering of 30,000 people converged on the site, only to discover a lack of food, entertainment, sufficient sanitation facilities, and the presence of around seventy individuals selling drugs.
